Promote winter tourism in your community
As the weather gets colder we look forward to cozy sweaters and hot chocolate instead of summer patio visits. But there’s still a lot to do outdoors in the winter.
If your community wants to attract visitors all winter long, why not use maps to show people how they can find all the activities you have to offer?
Some map ideas
- Show the locations of the best holiday light displays, for businesses, shopping districts, or neighbourhoods
- Suggest neighbourhood walking routes that are cleared of snow in the winter
- Show winter-maintained trails in parks and natural areas
- Mark locations of outdoor skating rinks and toboggan hills
Examples
The City of Cambridge has created an interactive map of trails that are cleared in winter, so it’s easy to plan a walk.
If you want to go skiing, keep an eye on the snow report on the Ontario Parks website.
The Active Parents group creates a map of holiday light displays every year for the Hamilton/Burlington area.
